Hazards Assessment Workshop in Arequipa, Peru"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 2018 Hazards Assessment Workshop in Arequipa, Peru brought together\u00a035\u00a0geoscientists charged with creation and updating of volcanic hazards maps and hazards assessments from 14 countries, most of which are in the Latin America region.\u00a0 Scientists discussed fundamental processes of transport and deposition of volcanic materials.\u00a0 They learned about the appropriate use of several different modeling tools for dispersal of volcanic sediments, including volcanic ash, pyroclastic flows, and lahars.\u00a0 They discussed\u00a0existing volcanic hazards assessments\/maps from their host institutions\/countries and shared case examples of parts that have been particularly effective in hazard communication.\u00a0 Participants worked to create a single document that records possible elements of future volcanic hazards assessments and documents exemplary cases of each of these elements.\u00a0 This document will be integrated into a consensus document in progress by the Working Group on Hazards Map of the IAVCEI Commission on Hazards and Risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
