In 2018, several volcanic eruptions around the world gained the attention of traditional and social media, providing tangible evidences of the influence of formal and informal communication on the actual impact of volcanic crises. The Working Group on Communicating Hazards, currently hosted at the Commission on Hazards and Risk's Facebook page, focuses on different aspects of scientific communication, resulting in a multifaceted picture of the many ways in which knowledge about volcanoes is produced and transferred across different stakeholders. Working group Hazard Mapping
|
The IAVCEI Hazard Mapping working group has been busy working on various activities over the last year. We helped facilitate a VDAP-funded workshop on Volcanic Hazard Assessments in Arequipa, Peru in April 2018, and launched the new “hazard map” article type for the Journal of Applied Volcanology. We are now busy working on the Sourcebook as well as the results of the global survey of volcanic hazard maps that many of you participated in. We now have 85 maps entered in the survey. We have set a deadline of 30 October 2019 for keeping the survey open.
If anyone would like to make a last minute contribution we would greatly welcome this. You can fill out the anonymous online survey by visiting the link here or downloading the pdf version. Please e-mail the survey back This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
